About Course

Nagoya University, located in the heart of Japan’s automotive “Silicon Valley,” offers a high-level intensive module: “Autonomous Driving in Japan.” As part of the Nagoya University Summer Intensive Program (NUSIP), scheduled for June 10 – July 17, 2026, this course is designed for students who want to move beyond the theory and into the reality of deploying autonomous vehicles (AVs) on complex public roads. Nagoya is home to Tier IV, the creators of Autoware (the world’s leading open-source software for self-driving), providing students with unparalleled access to the tech that powers today’s AV pilots. While the university provides elite academic instruction, access to the National Innovation Complex, and official academic credits, Edulux Summer manages the high-end logistics and travel services required for your stay in Japan.

What You’ll Learn (at Nagoya University)

  • Vision Beyond Level 3: Investigating the technical jump from “eyes-off” driving to full Level 4/5 autonomy, focusing on the specific challenges of Japan’s narrow, high-density urban environments.

  • Perception & Sensor Fusion: Mastering the integration of LiDAR, radar, and cameras to create a 360-degree real-time “world model,” including occlusion-aware planning for blind spots.

  • Open-Source AV Software: Gaining hands-on exposure to Autoware, learning how global researchers use open-source frameworks to accelerate the development of self-driving logic.

  • Social Implementation & Policy: Analyzing Japan’s national projects and regulatory “sandboxes” that allow for the testing of autonomous delivery robots and shuttles in aging rural communities.

  • Human-Centric Interaction: Exploring how AVs communicate with passengers and pedestrians, including the design of interfaces for “handing over” control between the machine and the driver.

  • Ethical & Safety Frameworks: Engaging with the “trolley problems” of autonomous AI and the ISO 26262 standards for functional safety in safety-critical software.

Our Travel & Experience Services

We manage the journey and the high-tech Japanese lifestyle so you can focus on the future of autonomous mobility:
