The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) offers a high-impact research track: “Novel Fabrication via Direct Laser Writing.” As a selected project within the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP), this initiative seeks to disrupt the traditional semiconductor paradigm. Traditional chip manufacturing is tethered to multi-billion dollar clean rooms and multi-step lithography; this project develops a “Direct-to-Substrate” technique that uses focused laser energy to deposit materials with nanometer precision.
