VIA University College—Denmark’s largest and most diverse university of applied sciences—offers a flagship four-week summer intensive: “United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals and Co-Creation.” This isn’t a traditional lecture-based course; it is a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) laboratory. You will join an international cohort in Aarhus, Denmark’s second-largest city and a European leader in sustainable urban living. The program is built around “Challenge-Based Innovation,” where you work directly with NGOs, private tech firms, and public authorities to solve the friction between global sustainability targets and real-world implementation. While the university provides elite academic instruction, access to VIA’s Innovation Hubs, and 5 or 10 ECTS credits, Edulux Summer manages the high-end logistics and travel services required for your stay in Denmark.
What You’ll Learn (at VIA University College)
-
The 2030 Agenda Framework: Investigating the interlinkages between the 17 SDGs, moving beyond individual goals to understand how “Quality Education” (Goal 4) impacts “Climate Action” (Goal 13) and “Reduced Inequalities” (Goal 10).
-
Co-Creation & Design Thinking: Mastering the methodology of “Co-Creation”—bringing together diverse stakeholders (citizens, companies, and experts) to design solutions that are socially inclusive and technically viable.
-
Migration & Social Inclusion: Exploring the specific challenges of integrating displaced populations and fostering social equality within modern European welfare states.
-
Problem-Based Learning (PBL): Working in cross-educational teams (e.g., engineers collaborating with social workers) to tackle live cases presented by external partners like the Danish Red Cross or local municipalities.
-
Intercultural Competencies: Developing the “soft power” skills required to lead international teams, navigating different cultural perspectives on sustainability and ethics.
-
Circular Economy & Sustainable Nutrition: Analyzing Danish case studies in green energy and food systems to understand how local innovation drives global environmental goals.
